ciara@thebreakthroughproject.ie

Ciara qualified as a Home Economics and Gaeilge teacher in 2011 and worked in a number of DEIS schools before joining Ringsend College in 2014, where she was later appointed as Deputy Principal in 2018. As a former student of a DEIS school, Ciara understands first-hand the challenges that marginalised students face as they attempt to access and progress at 2nd and 3rd level education. Ciara has worked on a number of programmes aimed at targeting educational disadvantage, including linking students in Ringsend and Irishtown with the Trinity Access Programme and working as a volunteer teacher in Uganda with charitable organisation Nurture Africa. As a result of her work with the Trinity Access Programme, Ciara undertook a postgraduate qualification in 21st Century Teaching and Learning in 2018 and went on to complete a Masters in Education in Trinity College in 2020.

Ciara is delighted to be co-creator of the project programme and student mentor for the coming year. She is excited by the prospect of overseeing the progression of the programme's first cohort of students that will break the barriers of educational disadvantage and become positive role models for their peers, families and communities.
